Profound States
A 4-Week Live, Deep Dive with Holly Bridges
Some nervous system states cannot be reached through conventional approaches.
Some individuals are not simply anxious, dysregulated, or overwhelmed.
They are profoundly still.
Profoundly withdrawn.
Profoundly offline from movement, speech, engagement, motivation, or relational contact.
These states are often misunderstood.
What appears externally as shutdown, avoidance, resistance, non-compliance, or 'lack of motivation' can in fact reflect deep autonomic survival states - states where the body is conserving energy, reducing output, and protecting itself through immobilisation - for years.
Prolonged immobilisation has many layers.
In this 4-week live deep dive, Holly Bridges explores profound nervous system states through the lens of Polyvagal Theory, Integral Theory, autistic inertia, catatonia, ADHD paralysis, trauma physiology, developmental neuroscience, and the Anxiety Reframe Technique (A.R.T.).
This is not a surface-level course.
It is an experiential and clinical exploration into the complexity of nervous system stillness, developmental arrest, protective withdrawal, the hidden intelligence within profound states, and what we can have when we work intelligently with body, mind and soul.
Through live teaching, case studies, interactive discussions, and reflective exploration, participants will deepen their understanding of:
-
Autistic inertia and profound shutdown states
-
Catatonia and functional immobilisation
-
ADHD paralysis and nervous system overwhelm
-
Freeze responses and dorsal vagal physiology
-
Protective stillness versus restorative stillness
-
The developmental impact of prolonged autonomic states
-
The body’s adaptive intelligence in profound withdrawal
-
Why many traditional therapeutic approaches fail in these states
-
How safety, pacing, and relational presence influence nervous system emergence
-
The foundations of the A.R.T. approach in working with profound states
This course is designed for practitioners, parents, educators, support workers, neurodivergent adults, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of complex nervous system presentations.
Course Format
4 Live Weekly Calls with Holly Bridges
Each session includes live teaching, conceptual deep dives, case studies, and interactive discussion.
Case Study Exploration
Real-world examples help translate theory into embodied understanding and practical application.
Interactive Learning Environment
Participants will have opportunities for reflection, questions, and collaborative exploration throughout the course.

This Course Is For You If…
-
You work with individuals in profound states of shutdown or withdrawal
-
You are supporting autistic individuals experiencing inertia or catatonia-like presentations
-
You want a deeper understanding of freeze physiology and dorsal vagal states
-
You are seeking alternatives to compliance-based or activation-focused approaches
-
You are interested in Polyvagal Theory, developmental neuroscience, and embodied therapeutic frameworks
-
You want to understand the hidden intelligence beneath stillness
- You are interested in becoming a Certified A.R.T. practitioner
A Different Conversation Around Stillness
In many models, stillness is viewed only as dysfunction.
But profound states are not empty states.
They are adaptive states. Intelligent states. Protective states.
And sometimes, beneath profound withdrawal, there remains an intact system waiting for conditions of safety, resonance, pacing, and relational trust so that movement and connection can emerge.
This course invites a more nuanced understanding of what profound states truly are - and what becomes possible when we stop fighting the nervous system and begin listening to it differently.
Live with Holly Bridges
Holly Bridges is the creator of the Anxiety Reframe Technique (A.R.T.), an innovative therapeutic approach supporting autistic inertia, shutdown states, trauma physiology, and nervous system restoration.
Her work integrates Polyvagal Theory, Integral Theory, developmental neuroscience, and embodied therapeutic principles to support individuals in profound states often considered unreachable through conventional approaches.
