YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO

Getting your body to cooperate - is another  matter

A.R.T.

is here to help

When you get stuck:

This can look different from person to person

You might:

  • know what you want to say and lose access to your words

  • struggle to get started, even with things you want to do

  • shut down when there is too much demand

  • feel physically unable to move or transition

  • become easily overwhelmed

  • lose access to clear thinking when you need it most

  • need a long time to recover after ordinary things

  • always feel disconnected from your body

  • find that your reactions happen before you have any say in them

A.R.T. gives you another place to work from

It's based on the premise that your body is a highly sophisticated, living system - that is running on old patterns

Small, simple movements - pressure - rhythm - pauses - give your nervous system different information to work with

  • You don't need to force anything

  • You don't need to articulate your emotions or access feelings that you don't have

  • You get to find your way

A.R.T. is highly individualised

Discover a whole new way of being in your body

 Be more able to:

  • Say what you want to say

  • Start when you want to start

  • Move when you want to move

  • Have better access to your mind

  • Recover faster

  • Get agency over your life

It not about becoming a different person, it's getting to be the person you actually are

The Polyvagal Theory is an excellent way of understanding what happens to us when our system 'drops out'.

The vagus nerve is responsible for maintaining connection between the brain and body - it lets us have access to locomotion, executive functioning, working memory and social engagement. If, very early in life, there has been a reason (it can be many things) that precipitates the body going into an immobilised state, the body can both learn this as a pattern - and grow around this nervous system response.

The body learns to withdraw, often with very little stimulus.

This is a very hard place to access by talking therapy, and management tools only go so far. For many people, it feels like there is a part of them that can never quite get accessed by traditional methods.

This is where we work with A.R.T.. Through gentle somatic practices, with a focus on teaching you the how and why all along the way, we make room for the body to learn something new. We teach it to find a state of deep rest - and help it find a place where it can make more efficient decisions, which includes letting you have more say in your day!

I work with a huge variety of people, Some autistic, some with trauma, many with early birth issues, adhd, borderline and bipolar issues, catatonia, cataplexy, narcolepsy, long covid - issues where the body takes control.
